The Best Affordable Vegan Restaurants in Manchester
Once restaurants start to open again there will be so many causes for celebration. What better place to spend those celebrations than in some of Manchester’s best affordable vegan restaurants!
We love a good plant-based eatery and those dotted around the city don’t disappoint. We’re sure there are so many other similar restaurants but here we have listed our top three affordable vegan restaurants.
1. Vertigo Plant-based Eatery
Vertigo had our hearts since day one! We remember our first lunch date here at their first restaurant on Cross Street in Manchester City Centre. Now, due to popularity they’ve scaled up and have another (slightly bigger) restaurant on Jack Rosenthal Street and are even opening a third restaurant in Media City, Salford. The visitors and residents of Manchester just can’t get enough of the plant-based goodness they offer.
The food here is affordable and you can dine in or take out. You can enjoy lunch from as little as £3.50 and an evening main course from £7.
During weekdays, you might have a bit of a wait during lunch hours as it gets super busy with local workers. Although their restaurants are smaller than usual, we’ve never struggled for a table. You can book ahead for evening reservations, but only at their spot on Jack Rosenthal Street.
You will find separate menus for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, all offering healthy and guilt-free(ish) meals, drinks and desserts. Find items such as waffles, smoothies bowls, lentil dahls, and seitan skewers.
We’ve tried many a delicious item off these creative menus and can’t recommend the Lotus Waffle, Reuben Bagel, and ¼ Cheezeburger enough.
Oh, and not forgetting the fruit smoothies and raw veg shakes!
P.S. Vertigo are even offering a delivery service for people living in Manchester City Centre and surrounding areas, spoilt! Check our their Instagram for more information.
2. The Allotment Vegan Restaurant
Second on our list of the best affordable vegan restaurants in Manchester is The Allotment, which you can find on Lloyd Street in the city centre. With a modern, rustic setting, The Allotment offers a relaxed yet more formal dining experience than Vertigo, which is evidenced by its offering of a 3-course set menu.
The food here is something else but don’t take our word for it – their many awards speak volumes. In 2018, it was voted the Best Vegetarian Restaurant in the UK by The Times. In 2020, they were within the Top 50 Best Vegan Restaurants in the World according to Big 7 Travel.
You will find anything from Tofu Ramen and Jackfruit Tacos to their best-selling “Fish & Chips”. The food here is fairly priced at around £12-£17 for a main, but you definitely get what you pay for. On Sundays, they take a Sunday Roast to the next level with a 3-course vegan menu for £25.
Bundobust was first recommended to us by numerous friends boasting about the tasty Indian-inspired menu. It took us a while to visit but now that we have, we are hooked!
It isn’t strictly vegan as they offer vegetarian dishes too. But most items on the tapas-style menu are vegan. If you enjoy your beers and craft ales, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
You can dine in or even take away your treats to enjoy at home. Dishes start from just £4 and because it’s tapas-style, you can easily try lots of dishes shared between friends. For a date night, we recommend the “Vegan Combo for 2” for £22.50.
So there you have it, three of our favourite affordable vegan restaurants in Manchester City Centre. Each offer a different dining experience to the next, yet all promise delicious vegan food and are paving the way for cruelty-free dining experiences.
