What are the best destinations for affordable luxury travel in Asia, the UK and Europe?
There are many awesome destinations around the world that budget travellers think are too expensive to travel. When people think of super modern cities or pristine white sand beaches, they automatically think the trip has to cost thousands. But the good news is, it really doesn’t have too! And we are here to show you just that.
We’ve put together our top destinations for enjoying luxury travel on a budget in Asia, the UK and Europe.
Asia is definitely one of the top places to enjoy luxury travel on a budget. If you are travelling from the West, your money goes a lot further than it would in many other parts of the world. But that’s not to say you won’t get caught out and pay over the odds for something if you’re not careful.
You have to know where to look, when to book, and most importantly, you have to avoid being put off by the misconception that certain places are off-limits for budget travellers. Over the years, we have visited some of Asia’s most expensive cities on a budget including Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai.
Even Dubai, with its ultra-modern skyscrapers and multitude of shopping malls and super cars, many people think its just for the super-rich. But you can actually get some good deals on accommodation and tours.
For example, when we travelled to Dubai, we paid around £100 per night for a hotel with rooftop pool and restaurant. Because everything is mostly newly built, all the facilities where clean and modern. The entire experience felt much more luxurious and expensive than what we paid. Plus, because we booked the majority of our month-long trip using Booking.com, they offered us a really good deal consisting of free or heavily discounted tours for the duration of our trip. This really allowed us to soak up the high life in Dubai without over spending.
The truth is, you can do the same in many Asian destinations. Here, we show you how to find cheap flights to Asia and visit more destinations.
There are many destinations in Europe that are noticeably cheaper than others. For example, Kraków in Poland, Bucharest in Romania, and Sofia in Bulgaria are all Eastern European destinations that are super affordable to travel around. It won’t be too difficult to find some good travel deals here.
But when you think of leading Italian cities such as Milan, Rome and Venice or other cultural hotspots such as Vienna, Zurich, Oslo and Reykjavik, things start to get a bit trickier.
But us budget travellers can still enjoy some luxury when heading to these destinations. We just have to generate a smarter booking process. Think about the sharing economy, Airbnb’s, local B&B’s and hidden cafés in non-tourist neighbourhoods. Step outside the main shopping street and into the side streets for quirky boutiques and locally run restaurants. Then, you will start to see how you can enjoy some of Europe’s most luxurious cities on a budget.
We recommend checking out Vienna, Prague and Budapest as a starting point to enjoying luxury travel on a budget in Europe.
It’s likely that the UK is not the first destination to come to mind when thinking of affordable luxury travel. It’s considered expensive to travel compared with other destinations around the world. We understand this completely. We seem to have had more summer holidays and trips abroad than we have in the UK and there’s a reason for it. It can be quite expensive if you don’t know the right places to look or the right time to book.
But that’s not to say you can’t enjoy luxury travel on a budget in the UK either. We recommend checking out Airbnbs in capital cities such as London and Manchester and quirky caravans and huts when heading out into the country.
Some of our favourite destinations to enjoy luxury travel on a budget in the UK include Yorkshire (Whitby, Scarborough, Filey), Wales (Snowdonia, Conwy), York and Cumbria. Although you might pay more for accommodation, the beauty of these destinations is that you can really enjoy the great outdoors. Think long hikes, English heritage sights, and picnics in the park.
